Sample, Sip & Savor in San Fran’s Mission District

Weave your way through Mission District on a guided walking food tour — with samples — & spend ample leisure time in the city.

About Your Trip

San Francisco is a fascinating melting pot, a city that’s welcomed immigrants from all over the world since the time of the California Gold Rush. These newcomers have brought with them traditional recipes for food and beverages that influence and enrich the city’s culinary experience for all. On this DreamTrip, you’ll embark on a unique — and tasty — journey through the streets of Mission District, taking in its thriving food culture and history.

From your starting point at La Taqueria (located at 2889 Mission Street), you’ll head out on a guided walking food tour of this lively and eclectic neighborhood. Tempt your taste buds with delicious samples from several places — including this long-standing, popular Mexican taqueria — and sip Veuve du Vernay sparkling wine or Suprema® beer (adults ages 21 and older only) as you stroll. Continue to an Italian bakery that has been in business for more than 50 years, then an El Salvadoran spot for traditional pupusa. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about the vibrant immigrant history that shaped the city and pass by colorful murals painted on everything from sides of buildings to garage doors. End the tour with ice cream and breathtaking views of the city from the perfect vantage point at Mission Dolores Park (at the corner of Church and 20th streets).

On your day of leisure, why not explore San Francisco’s top attractions, including Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf and Lombard Street? Or, walk across Golden Gate Bridge or visit the waterfront Embarcadero. Be sure to stop at Ghirardelli Square — once a chocolate factory established by Domenico “Domingo” Ghirardelli and now a popular shopping and dining experience.

What we love:

• Originating from El Salvador, mouthwatering pupusas are thick cornmeal flatbreads filled with anything from cheese and refried beans to fried pork.
• Your tour also includes another delectable surprise — but we’ll only reveal the “secret dish” on the day of the event! Can you guess what it might be?
• You’ll stay and play at a popular, award-winning boutique hotel! Among its other accolades, The Marker has just been ranked No. 4 hotel in San Francisco in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2019 Readers’ Choice Awards!
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

San Francisco has been inhabited since 3,000 B.C. and was initially colonized by Spanish settlers in 1776. Eventually, the U.S. claimed the entire state of California in 1846.

Today, San Francisco stands as a beacon of progressive thinking, trendy culture and delicious seafood. Infamous and formidable Alcatraz Island is just a boat ride away, and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge stands tall on the waters along the coast. The city is also well known for its booming technology and tourism industries. Visitors and locals alike flock to Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown, and throughout the city, sourdough bread and Mexican-inspired cuisine number among the most popular foods.
